06 April 2009 | Costa Rica, Monteverde
Having your birthday in Costa Rica is just one big crazyness, at least at Finca Santamaria it is. I fell from one trap into another all day. Ofcourse it started with grocerieshopping and cooking preparing Sangria and of course meat for the Costarican people who cannot live without meat. At twelve o clock the party would start on sundayafternoon so that all the kids would be able to come and of course nobody had to work. It was sunny weather. Costaricans aren’t big fans of the sun so they were sitting in the shade under some wooden construction we built on the plaza. It all looked amazingly cosy. Also my piñata was hanging there ready for me to hit it. I had put on my beautiful Mexican dress and was ready to party. At one o clock almost everybody was there so we started to eat, and it was great. After lunch Edgar started some of his crazy games, with waterballoons, of course that meant after that I didn’t have a dry dress anymore. But who cares when it is 30 degrees on your birthday in march. After that I said a little speech cause of course it wasn’t just my birthday but it was also my saying goodbye party in disguise. So I told them what this year means for me and that is it because of them I stayed most of the time in Monteverde. I had printed photos for everybody so I gave them, and had a special gift for Edgar and Sara. That was an emotional moment, but very very beautiful and warm. Than the party began, we had jump ropes, and the men had to pull robes for a hug from me. After that I had to hit the piñata. I was hitting and hitting, and getting real tired, didn’t get what was going on, why didn’t it break. Of course I didn’t knew that they had switched the piñata while they put on my blindfold. So they were dying of laughter and I was dying of hitting the piñata with a big smile of coure. Than I got to trough all the candy all around the plaza and the people where going for it like crazy. At that moment I felt completely happy. Than Sara and Norman came walking down the plaza with a very big cake in their hands and were singing ‘Cumpleanos feliz’. Than all the people were shouting that i had to take a bite. Of course I was very suspicious that it would end I somebody pushing me into the cake, but I was assured that that wasn’t going to happen. So me and my over trusting the world got pushed into the cake really deep. And after that I had to cut it. It appeared a cake made out of sponge so I couldn’t cut it. With my face full of cake-icing I took the sponge and went for Edgar. Naturally he started running and I didn’t succeed in catching him. Well after that they helped me to clean myself up, and there was the real cake. It was delicious, but my god I was absolutely broken. All the running around and crazyness. It was an amazing day in everything. With all my friends there and me like the princess of the jungle. This is just one day of my life that I will never ever forget and therefore I thank all my friends and family here in Costa Rica for doing all this for me. I love you guys from the bottom of my heart.
Now I am preparing myself to leave Monteverde in two weeks. And on the 22nd I will take a plane to Cancun to visit Rolph for a week and than take my flight back to The Netherlands where is will arrive on the 5th of may, in hopefully the warm arms of my mother, sister and her boyfriend. And ofcourse I am going crazy to see my cat again, don’t think she really cares, but he, that’s the love of an animal no?! hihi.
Bye guys, just one more blog to come!
